20 Basic Fashion Rules to Make or Break

Every woman wants to be fashionable, but damn  being fashionable can be demanding sometimes; i mean you are faced with questions like What to wear? What shoes and accessories go with a particular style of clothing? What IN trends to follow and so on. If you are an ardent follower of Fashion, here are some rules to help you develop a chic look of your own and please feel free to break some of the rules knowing that fashion fades but style is eternal. Fads come and go but these 20 fashion rules are basic  rules every stylish woman  should know.

1. Visualize your overall look :   Always imagine the look you want to pull off and then put your pieces together.

2. Dress your age and figure:  Ensure to wear what suits your age , if you are 18 feel free to experiment and  wear what your mates are wearing and when you are over 30, cover up nicely.

3. Wear Black:  Black has a slimming effect , it is ever appealing, hides everything and you can't go wrong with It, so remember to stock some black pieces in your wardrobe .

4. If you are revealing lots of cleavage, keep the legs covered. It is much sexier to leave a little to the imagination.

5.  Experiment with jewellery, but avoid those that jingles when you walk, they make you look disorganised.

6.  Wear one bold colour at a time :   This is one outdated fashion rule I have broken times without number. One thing I learnt from the colour blocking era is that a bold saturated hue looks better when paired with another bold saturated hue. Go for the super- modern look by pairing your bold colours together.

7. Go thrifting:  You don't have to buy the most expensive item or break the bank to be on top of your game in terms of Fashion, add a couple of stylish inexpensive thrifted items to your wardrobe, they don't make you less important. 8. Sunglasses have to be neutral:  Lately trend-setting designers as well as fashion forward- girls have ditched dark frames in favour of pastel coloured styles. The  shapes are getting more unique and quirky and the shades are either bold or sweet ( the pink colour am wearing in the picture below is from Haute signatures ).

9.  When you are wearing a suit, make sure your shirt is a lighter colour than your suit.

10. Sneakers are only for the gym :   This is another rule that has been broken as recent trends have proven , the right pair of sneakers can give the chic modern look with a sporty twist when paired with dressier pieces like skirts, dresses to statement tees and jeans.

11. Mixed prints are too busy:   Mixed prints are trendy right now and they can elevate your look from ordinary to street style in a flash. Learn how to mix and match your prints especially the bold prints, and keep everything else simple like I complimented my prints set  from slay on a budget with a casual white sneakers below.

12.  When rocking a cut-out piece , do make it decent , you are trying to look sexy and not trashy; feel confident and comfortable in it.

13. Do rock the denim on denim trend but be careful with the shade you mix and match.

14.  Don't ever let any part of your bra show in a dress, it's tacky. If you are going to Wear a sleeveless dress /blouse, do make sure your pits are clean shaved.

15.  Wear a nude bra under your white and light hues clothes and the black bra under dark clothing.

16.  Use a matching handbag with you shoes:   please do break this rule. Who says your handbag must be the same colour with your shoes; yes it use to be one of the rules from old, today's fashion says NO , instead use colours that compliment each other.

17.  Perfumes can be tricky,  try not to spray so much that it becomes offensive. Lightly spray on your arms, upper chest and wrists. You don't have to smell it before you know it's at work because if you smell good , people would take note.

18. Never mix gold and silver jewellery together:   with the cute mettalic jewelleries and accessories in vogue now, it would be a loss to only wearing them with same metals,  it is safe to forget this rule and wear your jewelleries  with whatever you want, just layer them right.

19.  Loud make-up doesn't make you look better, except you are going for a carnival and when wearing a neon lipstick, apply moderately  so as not to clash with everything else you ''re wearing.


20. Never wear black with brown /Navy:   This rule is a No No, so please break it  . Black, Brown and navy are all neutrals which means that you can wear them with everything including each other. Do try the black and brown clash for a super- chic look.
